"Superstition is to religion what astrology is to astronomy: the mad daughter of a wise mother." --Voltaire, French philosopher and writer
Greetings, and welcome to Astronomy! My name is Bryan (iknowthyself) and I will be your professor. Before posting in the community, please look over these rules:
* If you wish to join this class, the only requirement is that you MUST first be a sorted member of castlehogwarts. * Please, please, PLEASE respect your fellow classmates. If you have a problem, please contact me, and I will try to take care of it. * The comments area is NOT a message board. Leave comments only to turn in assignments or ask me a question. Please do not use the comments area as an opportunity to have a conversation with your friends. * When posting, please include your name and House somewhere in your message. You can use your signature or put it in the subject line - just as long as I can see it. * Please use proper grammar when posting assignments. Typos are fine (I'm not that much of a grammar nazi), but please see that your assignments aren't full of lol's, omg's, rofl's, and things of that nature. d0nt B a n00b roflmao n0 n3t$p3@k plz thnx. However, I don't oppose to the occasional smiley, because if I did I'd be rather hypocritical. I don't care if you use a =) or something to that effect every once in a while, just don't litter your assignments with them. * I will ask that members of the community please not post to the actual community itself. See the "Asssignments Policy" section for information about posting assignments and the "Contact Info" section for information about how to reach me. * If you have a question about one of the assignments, or anything else for that matter, please don't hesitate to ask me - in fact I encourage it.
* Homework is NOT mandatory. It's simply a way to participate in class and earn points for your House. However, I give points at the end of the term based on how active you were and how many points you recieved over the course of the term. If you did well you earn more bonus points. Once you have passed the 60% grade level for every 10% level you surpass you earn your house 25 additional points. * The amount of points you receive for your homework depends on what you turn in - the more thorough you are, the more points you earn. There will be a maximum and minimum points setting on every assignment. As long as I see you've put some effort into it, you will receive points for it. However, thorough work is strongly recommended. * It is strongly suggested that homework be turned in on or before the due date, however if you absolutely need to turn in an assignment late, you can contact me and ask for an extension. Be warned that I am very picky when it comes to granting extensions, but if the excuse accurately warrants the extension, rather than just being lazy or forgetting to do the assignment, I will gladly grant you one. If you do not ask for an extension or I deny your request, however, you can still turn in the assignment past the due date. Be warned that if you take this road, for every week that your assignment is turned in late (IE: seven days past the set due date), 10 percent will be deducted from what would have been your total. * Please post assignments as a comment to the original post. All comments will be screened. Once the papers are graded - and ONLY once the papers are graded - I will un-screen the comments. Sorry, no cheating here! * EXTRA CREDIT: If you have an idea for an assignment, contact me. If I use your idea, I will award ten points toward your House.
* Points can be awarded for any and all of the following: -Homework -Extra credit -Contests regarding graphics - IE: If I ever decide I need a new layout/banner/icon/etc., I will give x amount of points to all entries, and y amount of points to the actual winner. * And of course, the professor giveth, the professor taketh away. Translation: I can take away points just as easily as I give them. I don't like taking away points, I really don't, so please don't make me. However, if you are found to be frequently breaking the rules of the community I will take points from your House. I obviously don't want to do that, so please don't make me be the bad guy. * Points are your best friend. It is strongly encouraged to do anything and everything you can within the community to earn points for your house. Participation is key!
Newcomers are always welcome! I have absolutely no problem with people coming in during the middle of the term. However, I do ask that if you do join late, you fill out this survey. Worth an automatic five points toward your house! You can fill it out and send it in.
