Hey guys! Just a friendly reminder that our first assignment will be due by midnight tonight! You can still turn it in late, but for each week it is late 10 percent will be deducted from what would have been your total. I noticed that we had two members of the class join rather towards the end of this assignment, so these two students will be able to turn it in by Friday, June 15 and still be able to receive full credit. The rest of you still have, oh, a little under twelve hours to get it in and still receive full credit. I've only had one person turn it in so far, and only one person has contacted me about getting an extension, so I'd really like to see the rest of you turn it in! I promise the next assignment will be far more interesting. :-\
To anyone who has requested membership to my class and has not yet received it, this post is for you. I'm fairly certain that I have received e-mails regarding membership to this class, but upon checking the community's member list I realize that none of the people I have accepted have been added. This is just to let you know that I am not by any means rejecting those of you who have made a request; apparently LiveJournal has something against making membership easy. For now, I am changing the membership status of
Hello all! I apologize for being dead for the entire last term and most of the term before, but as I'm sure a lot of you can relate, my life got completely crazy and I had basically no time for anything outside of my school work. But summer has become my safe haven, and therefore ch_astronomy is coming back bigger and better than ever! The very first assignment for this term will be a massive clean-out. ALL users currently listed as members of the ch_astronomy community will be deleted, but only as a formality. Anybody, new or old, who wishes to become a member of the class must fill out the survey that follows. Filling out the survey will award you and automatic 5 points toward your house, and your name will be immediately added to the class roster. For any information regarding the structure of the class, homework policy, points policy, etc., please visit the community's Community Info page.
Hey guys, I've just decided to just forget about the due date on that last assignment. Seeing as no one has turned it in yet and everyone's schedule must be completely crazy like mine, I can definitely see why no one's found the time to do it. So I'm just extending the due date indefinitely. Feel free to turn it in whenever you'd like. I hope to see some of you turn it in soon!
Hello all! The points are in from the cleanout survey and the class roster has been amended as needed. Those who did not fill out the cleanout survey have been removed from the class roster and the community member list. If you wish to rejoin the community, you can most certainly do so. Newcomers are welcome all year. However, you will have to re-enter the class as a newcomer. Please check the community info before you commense with doing an assignment, just to make sure you are familiar with the rules of the class, and to check to see if I correctly added you to the roster. From what I derived from the cleanout survey, a lot of you who are returning seem to have wanted to see more text assignments, rather than the ones dealing with pictures. Well, your wish is my command. I decided that our first order of business in the finally returning community of ch_astronomy is some elements of space itself. I figured that it would probably be easier, and possibly more interesting, to look at it from the viewpoint of Muggle technology. (Psst, thanks iknowthyself !) ( Technology in Space - Lesson #1Collapse )Have fun!
Hey there guys! Just a reminder that you can still fill out the cleanout survey until midnight ET tonight! Don't forget, I will not accept them after midnight, so if you want to re-apply you'll have to do so as a newcomer. Newcomers are welcome all term, but I simply want to know who plans on returning. I hope to see more before midnight!
w00t, It's ch_astronomy come back from the dead!!Terribly sorry to those who have been waiting for assignments to be posted, although I can be fairly sure that it's only been a few of you. If you're like me classes have been killing ya, and I can totally understand everybody being busy. Before we start with any real assignments, I'd first like to know which old members would like to remain on the class roster, and which new members would like to be added. I plan on doing a full clean-out of anybody currently on the roster. I'd like everyone who plans to be an active member of ch_astronomy to please fill out the application below. Any new members please be referred to this post before filling out this application. All applications will be worth 5 points towards your House. I will not take any applications after Wednesday, November 29, 2006, midnight ET.PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THOSE WHO DO NOT TURN IN AN APPLICATION ON OR BEFORE THE DUE DATE MUST REGISTER TO BE ENROLLED IN THE CLASS AGAIN.
I'll be sure to have a real assignment up as soon as the cleanup is finished.
Name:House:Current Status (HoH, Prefect, etc):For those of you who are returning, what would you like to see be done differently? For those of you who are new, what do you hope to learn? How active do you predict yourself to be in this class? Why do you take an interest in Astronomy?I hope to see all of you turn in an application! Be ready for a real assignment once the technical stuff is through!
So When is the next assignment oh great professor?
Alrighty guys, I'm extending Assignment 2d's due date. Life is beginning to catch up with me now and I'm having difficulty finding time to grade, or even come up with, assignments. I'll be sure to remedy this quickly, I promise. Also, I am a tad on the disappointed side that only two people have turned in the assignment. Hopefully the extended due date will allow for more participation.Assignment 2d is now due on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, 12:00 AM ET.Participation please? *sad puppy eyes*Thanks!
Hey there guys, I'd just like to make one request - I've realized that it would probably be both easier on me and more fair to the rest of you if I can see where exactly you're getting your pictures for the assignments, that way I can tell if the site you're using is accurate. So if you wouldn't mind, from now on if you could please cite your sources for the constellation pictures that would be most appreciated. If you've already turned in this week's assignment (so far I believe there have only been two), please post it as an additional comment.
